Homemade Hummus

Just like our homemade Tzatziki recipe, this homemade hummus will have you never going back to store-bought again. It’s a perfect spread to serve with any Mediterranean dish or a great healthy dip for veggies, pretzel crisps, pita chips, or just about anything!

Hummus Ingredients:

  • 2 16 oz. cans of chickpeas

  • 2-3 garlic cloves

  • ½ cup of lemon juice (1 large lemon)

  • ¼ cup of extra virgin olive oil

  • 1/3 cup of tahini

  • 3 ice cubes

  • Dash of salt

  • Paprika (optional – for spice and smokiness)

  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin

Instructions:

  1. First open the chickpeas cans and place in a large bowl and fill the bowl with hot water making sure to cover the chickpeas and let sit for 20 minutes.

  2. Then drain, rinse and peel the chick peas and set them aside.

  3. In a blender add tahini and lemon juice and blend for a minute.

  4. Then add in ¼ extra virgin olive oil, 2 minced garlic cloves, a dash of salt, and optionally some paprika is you like a little extra spice (like me) and blend all together for another minute.

  5. Add half the chickpeas to the blender and blend another minute. Then add the rest of the chickpeas and blend until smooth, 1-2 minutes.

  6. Add in 3 ice cubes and blend again until smooth. Taste and add more salt or paprika as needed.

  7. Store homemade hummus in airtight container and refrigerate up to one week.
